The city of San Jose is in the heart of Silicon Valley in California. Working with Smart Wave and Ruckus to upgrade the city’s network before holding some of downtowns largest events including the college playoffs was necessary in order to stay up to date with digital communications. Positioning itself as a smart city using Ruckus’ smart wireless solution, the deployment consists of Ruckus’ 802.11ac outdoor and indoor access points (APs) to deliver high-performance broadband. Managing the APs is the Ruckus virtual SmartZone controller (vSZ) that resides on the city’s VMware platform. The city is also using Smart Cell Insight (SCI) to help understand the type of network usage that occurs during events to help prepare for future events.
