There are two networking terms which are regularly being used by consumers and business professionals, PoE and Multi Gig, and so we thought it best to explain them a little. This course will give you clarity on how these two chaps work and what they bring to the networking party. We'll begin with PoE.

Key Takeaways:
- Passive PoE devices are vendor specific and do not comply to the 802.3 standards.
- It's extremely important to know what PoE voltage your device requires before plugging in the Ethernet cable and powering up.
- 1Gb Ethernet is struggling to keep pace with demand and it has financial implications.
- 100Mpbs, also known as ‘Fast Ethernet’
- 1Gbps or Gigabit networks.
- 2.5Gbps and 5Gbps networks, referred to as Multi-Gigabit or Multi-Gig.
10Gbps, or 10Gb Ethernet.
- Pioneered by NETGEAR, five-speed Multi-Gig supports all five Ethernet speeds from one switch: 100Mbps, 1Gb, 2.5Gb, 5Gb and 10Gb.
