In this video, we will introduce you to the Jekyll static site generator. We will cover the basic theory behind the program and why you may or may not want to use it.

Jekyll generates a static site from a series of file saved on your local computer. Once the site has been generated, it must be transferred to a web server.

Jekyll does not utilize databases. All of the information needed to build and launch the site is contained within a simple file structure that uses relative linking.

Some comfort with a text editor and a command line interface is a prerequisite for using Jekyll effectively. Thus, Jekyll may be of most use to intermediate level developers.
