This video will focus on how to get a free SSL certificate for GoDaddy, Hostinger or other web hosting providers using Cloudflare. I'll show you how to get and install the Cloudflare flexible SSL and the Cloudflare full SSL. Everything is completely free and works for a lifetime.

Free Cloudflare Flexible SSL

This method will give you a free SSL certificate, but it won't be an end to end encryption. This means your users will see a green lock when they visit your site and your connection will be encrypted between then user and cloudflare, not your server. So while it's a free SSL solution watch till the end to encrypt your website fully!

If you're in a rush, this encryption method is fine and you can always change it to full encryption later. To get a free Cloudflare flexible SSL you'll need to:

1. Create an account with Cloudflare (www.cloudflare.com)
2. During account creation type in the name of your website which is not secure yet.
3. Choose the free plan and wait for everything to update.
4. Navigate to your web hosting provider, for this free ssl tutorial I've used Hostinger.
5. Update the nameservers of your domain name, to the ones that Cloudflare provided.
6. Install 2 WordPress plugins called (Flexible Cloudflare SSL and Really Simple SSL)
7. Click "Go ahead and activate SSL" in WordPress.

That's it now you have a free cloudflare flexible SSL!

Cloudflare Full SSL Encryption For Free

However, if you want to encrypt the information between the user and your server, not just Cloudflare you'll need to install what's called a Full Free SSL. Here's what you need to do.

1. Go into your Cloudflare account, click on SSL/TLS tab and change the encryption from "Flexible" to "Full".
2. Click on "Origin Server" and click "Create Certificate" then click "Next"
3. Copy and paste the certificate information in the SSL/TLS tab of your web hostinger provider (I've used cPanel and Hostinger in the video).
4. Visit https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000479507-Managing-Cloudflare-Origin-CA-certificates to find the CA bundle.
5. And simply click on "Install" everything will be working within a couple of minutes.

When installing your free ssl certificate for GoDaddy or Hostinger or other web hosting providers make sure to give some time before everything starts working. Your website might show an error, but actually everything is working correctly. You can check if you did everything correctly by using an Incognito tab.

A free VPS is something that a lot of users want. And seemingly there are plenty of options to choose from. But upon further inspection it seems like these Free VPS providers aren't as legit as you would expect. Often baiting users into clicking ads, mining data or buying premium plans by mistake.

So, I took it upon myself to test out as many Free VPS providers as I could to determine if any of them are actually real. Here's what I found.

VPS Server

The very first result on Google promising a 7 day trial. While 7 days isn't really a "free vps" it's still better than nothing. So, I tried signing up for this service, but it asked me to submit my ID and a LOT of personal information. Since I wasn't really in the mood to do so, I've decided to completely skip this provider as the 7 day free vps trial wasn't worth it in my opinion.

Gratis VPS

This was by far the biggest offender when it comes to websites that are offering a free VPS service. Gratis VPS is just a huge ad farm, baiting users into clicking ads and making money off them. In general, just wasting your time.

They keep changing their design overtime, but the scam generally stays the same. They promise a free VPS or a free VPS tial. But they ask you to click on ads to "unlock your password" of course there was never any free VPS available and they're just trying to make you click the ads for them.

Avoid Gratis VPS at all costs, this scam has been running for over a year now.

Cloudsigma

This is another weird provider advertising a free VPS trial. I'm not sure if they're really trying to get anything from you or it's just a discontinued product. But I wasn't able to get their interface and service to work at all, the menu buttons were missing or weren't clickable. Some elements just wouldn't load at all.

VPSWala

Another scam free vps provider that has been operating for more than a year now. Offering free vps plans, but asking you to fill out A LOT of personal information and password. In the end, they tell you that once your free VPS is activated you'll get an email, but the email never arrives. Basically just takes your data and does whatever they want with it.

Other Scams

Following these everything else I found pretty much followed the same exact patterns. They were either an ad farm, trying to trick users into clicking ads, they were advertising free VPS trials that were extremely hard to get or in some cases just impossible OR they were just using the words FREE VPS on their website, but the website would only have paid options.

PERFORMANCE TESTS

When it comes to performance Hostinger invests heavily into the newest tech and the latest architecture for their servers. They're utilizing PHP 7.4, Litespeed servers and server side caching to increase your website loading speed quite dramatically. In the hostinger vs bluehost performance tests that I've done in 2020, Hostinger was more than twice as fast as Bluehost.

However, in my stability test I've found that Hostinger limits the max amount of users you can get on your site without slowing down quite dramatically. To keep up with the fast performance, your website (with the cheapest Hostinger plan) will only work smoothly when it's being browsed by 20-30 people at the same time.

Bluehost can support around 50-60 users at the same time without experiencing slowdowns. When it comes to Bluehost vs Hostinger in terms of performance I would say that Hostinger is a better fit for smaller, speed oriented sites. While Bluehost works better for larger, not so much speed dependent sites.

At the same time, Bluehost offers 24/7 live chat support for free, phone support and email support. So, it's not much of a comparison. Bluehost is A LOT better when it comes down to support.

And Bluehost offers automatic WordPress updates and a staging environment for your site. The staging environment allows you to create a copy of your site and test out all changes there.

If you're still unsure should you buy Hostinger or Bluehost think of it like this. Hostinger is the cheapest possible option that offers premium level quality and performance. In short, a domain name is simply your website name. It's what users type into the address bar when they want to reach your website. But your domain name is much more than raw text. Behind the name it's hiding a secret address called the IP address. An IP address is like a regular address and shows the browser on which server your website files are located.

Once the browser knows this information it can go ahead and fetch the website files from the server and display you a website.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Domain names operate on a technology called the DNS (Domain Name System). This allows browser to translate domain names into IP addresses and redirect the requests to responsible servers. Also, for you as a human it's much easier to remember a written word or a name than a random IP address which is usually just gibberish numbers.

So in short, when you type in a domain name into your address bar, the browser first checks if it has the address for it, if not it checks with your operating system. And if this fails, it contacts the DNS asking for the correct address. The DNS provides your browser the address and it can display the according files. In other to transfer your website to another host you'll need to take these steps.

1. Open the WordPress dashboard of your old web hosting provider and install and activate a plugin called "All In 1 WP Migration".
2. Click on "All In 1 WP Migration" button and select the "Export" option from the menu.
3. Choose to export your website as "File" and save the zip file somewhere on your computer. These are all of your website files for a successful website migration.

4. Now, to transfer your website you'll need to install a clean WordPress version on the web hosting providers account you want to transfer your website to.
5. After WordPress is installed go into the control dashboard and install the All In 1 WP Migration plugin again.
6. This time from the menu choose "Import", if your website is larger than 64Mb you'll need to install the plugin extension I've linked above.
7. Upload the File you've downloaded earlier. And the plugin will transfer your website to another hosting provider automatically.
8. Now you'll need to update your Permalink Structure. Click "Update Permalink Structure" and choose “Post Name” then click save. Your website should be transferred at this point!

Manually Migrate Website (ANY SIZE)

2.Inside your OLD web hosting provider, navigate tothe PHPMyAdmin area and export all of the database files as an SQL file. Download the file onto your computer.
3. Inside your NEW Web hosting provider and install a fresh WordPress version.
4. Inside your NEW web hosting provider access the PHPMyAdmin area and remove all of the existing files. Replace them with the SQL file you've downloaded earlier.
5. Inside your NEW web hosting provider access the FIle Manager and delete all of the files there. Replace them by unpacking the zip file you've downloaded earlier.
6.Update the WP-Config files with the new prefix to merge the database and files of your new site.

So these are the 2 methods of how to transfer your website to another host. While the first method of website migration is easier, it's limited to maximum size of 500mb for your website. If you have a larger website than 500mb you'll have to use method 2 to successfully transfer your website.

The plugin has a free and a paid version, but for what we're doing the free version will work just fine. And after all, if you want to learn how to secure your website, it's best to learn with free tools at the start. You can get this plugin by navigating to your WordPress dashboard and clicking on Plugins then Add New and searching for iThemes Security.

Hiding The Backend

I always think that the best security is prevention. You won't need to secure your site if no one even attempts to hack it, right? This is why I often hide the backend of my website. And whenever people ask me "How to secure my website?" I always recommend rerouting the login portal from wp-admin to something unique. Since most automated attacks always try to access websites that use the wp-admin login portal.

With this one simple trick of installing a WordPress security plugin and rerouting the traffic. You'll already protect your website from thousands of attacks.

Stopping Brute Force Attacks

However, I'll also show you how to add yourself to the white list and secure your website and your IP from getting locked out by accident.

After this, your Gmail account is already ready to receive emails that are directed to your business email box. Cloudways has taken quite a different approach to web hosting. Instead of having web hosting servers and infrastructure themselves. They simply rent everything and provide users with a beginner-friendly and easy to manage method of hosting their websites. Offering quite an improvement in performance for a fraction of the cost. As I prepared for this Cloudways review, did performance tests, interacted with the support I definitely found that this approach allows Cloudways to do very well, while others....left to be desired.

Cloudways advertise monthly prices on their homepage. But the pricing system is a bit more complex. The more space and bandwidth you use up...you guessed it, the more it's going to cost.

On the bright side, you're never overpaying while using Cloudways. because they charge you ONLY for the resources that you're actually using. So even if you have a really powerful server, that you don't utilize to capacity you won't be charged extreme amounts.

The main advantage of Cloudways is the control panel. It provides you with an easy to use tool when managing your virtual private servers. And it boasts quite an impressive amount of features. For example, you can install all of the most popular content management systems like WordPress or Drupal. You get access to professional email services at an extra cost, you get free SSL certificates for the domains you connect.

During this cloudways review, I noticed that it's the EASIEST way of managing your virtual private server that I have seen while working with web hosting.

PERFORMANCE

Okay while this is a Cloudways review, they don't actually own any of the servers. So, the performance is entirely dependant on their supplier and which web hosting provider you choose. For this review I went with VULTR and the performance was spectacular. The best I've seen this year and by paying $8 a month I was able to get a faster website than $20 or $30 shared web hosting plans.

If you're looking for performance and speed VPS or Cloud Hosting is definitely the way to go and Cloudways will work spectacularly well.

While the performance is great, the pricing is awesome and the service itself is really enjoyable. The people behind Cloudways like to do a lot of shady and spammy marketing. I believe that the product they have is good enough and they don't need this. But it is what it is.

Cloudways does a lot of marketing campaigns on forums, Reddit, and Facebook groups where they pretend to be customers and influence people to buy. At the same time, they do quite aggressive email marketing campaigns. And the support that they offer isn't the best. They weren't able to consult me on the problem I had in the video and it felt like at least in this Cloudways review video they simply wanted to get rid of me.

RECOMMENDATION

Bluehost charges a very small $0.20 premium for their plans. On average both Bluehost and Hostgator offer almost the exact same pricing models. Especially if you apply discounts since HostGator tends to offer larger discounts than Bluehost making their pricing more in-line.

The only true difference that I’ve noticed while preparing this Hostgator vs Bluehost review is the fact that Bluehost wants you to commit for a longer period of time with their plans. Offering 1,2 or 3-year pricing plans. While HostGator offers monthly plans and doesn’t require you to commit for so long.

In terms of features, both providers give you a free domain name and a free SSL certificate with their plans. As well as offering 1 click WordPress installation software.

PERFORMANCE

Even though Bluehost and Hostgator prices are similar, Hostgator performs just slightly better on average. At least, during my tests. Even though the difference is so small it could be written off as a marginal error.

While filming this HostGator vs Bluehost review I expected for Bluehost to be faster just because they seem to have a bit newer infrastructure in place. But during my speed test, HostGator showed to load a fully designed website in around 0.4 to 0.5 seconds faster than Bluehost.

While testing the stability of both web hosting providers HostGator also showed no performance issues during the whole week. While Bluehost had 1 really small outage of a couple of minutes.

And just to cover my bases when comparing Bluehost vs Hostgator I’ve also done a stress test and sent an army of bots to wreak havoc on my site. But both web hosting providers proved to be resilient and didn’t buckle under pressure. So at least for low to moderate usage, you shouldn’t notice any slowdown.

ADVANTAGES

There are some unique advantages that both web hosting providers have that might influence your buying decision. For example, Bluehost offers automatic updates for WordPress. That means you do not have to go ahead and update your WordPress plugins, themes, and core version manually. It’s a pretty neat time saver especially if you’re working on multiple websites at once.

Another unique advantage that Bluehost has is the fact that it offers website staging. So you don’t have to make updates on the fly and inconvenience your users. You can work on the staging environment and simply merge the 2 versions together once you’re ready to.

On the other hand, the only truly notable feature that HostGator has over Bluehost is the fact that they offer free website migration. So, if you have a project hosted somewhere else HostGator engineers will move that to your HostGator plan free of charge.

While HostGator often creates frustration when using their services. Even though you’re sacrificing performance by using Bluehost, you shouldn’t be looking at Bluehost or Hostgator if you want the best possible performance because both providers are average at best when it comes to loading speed.

Dreamhost allows you to buy relatively cheap monthly plans.

Well in this WP Engine review I found out that you're not paying for RAW power. It's more for convenience and features. In my opinion, the Starter and Scale plans are the ones you should pay the most attention to.

When you're getting a plan from WP Engine, you get to host more than 1 website even though you get the starter plan. Sounds confusing? Well, it's because you actually get 3 separate work environments. Production, Staging, and Development. This allows you to make changes & test those changes without interrupting the experience of your users. Your live site is never in danger.

Overall, while doing this WP Engine review I've noticed that their control panel is simple to use, intuitive, and quite feature-rich. But to get the most of it you need to have web hosting experience.

PERFORMANCE

WP Engine is FAST, really FAST. And it's to be expected with such a high price tag, it's around 22% faster than the top shared web hosting plans. And this is because you're not sharing resources with other users on the network.

WP Engine managed to load my website in around 1.4s. But it struggled once I sent over a significant chunk of users that made thousands of requests per second. This shows that WP Engine is fast, but only when operating within the limits of the plans. The resources you get are exhausted quite quickly.

EXTRA FEATURES

While filming this WP Engine review. I also went ahead and bought some additional features that cost me around $400 a year. This was a security tool and a plugin management tool.

Are they necessary for your website? Absolutely not, the security tool I would only recommend to people who run a profitable website. The plugin manager works best for multisite owners to save time.

In this A2 hosting review I look at the pricing model that A2 hosting is offering. Since they recently updated their plans and even added new ones, there are a lot of changes. Gone are the Starter Swift and Turbo plans and in their place, there are 4 completely new plans with different pricing. Keep in mind, that A2 hosting like most other web hosting providers offers introductory pricing on the 1st purchase (discounted). But once it's time to renew the price goes up dramatically. Infinity Free

When it comes to free web hosting infinity free is offering a pretty good service in terms of performance. However, with some significant drawbacks.

While most free web hosting providers put ads on your website or some sort of branding, InfinityFree doesn't. The way you design your site, the way it's going to stay. And that's one of the biggest reasons why I would recommend InfinityFree to people who desperately need a website with no branding.

However, when I tested the performance their plans were a bit dodgy. It worked good IF you get it to work, but getting to the point where your website is operation, takes a bit of playing around, lots of refreshing and patience.

Another major point is that you accept that InfinityFree can collect and share your personal data. This might lead to some data leaks. Overall, I do think that InfinityFree is one of the better free web hosting providers, but mostly for throw-away projects.

000Webhost

A couple of years back 000Webhost was the king of free web hosting. Offering absolutely everything you need for a website free of charge. Great performance, generous limits, additional functionality like email addresses. However, as time went by they started adding more and more limitations and removing features.

At the moment, they're nowhere near as good of a free web hosting choice as they were, but still seem to be the most updated and consistent service out there.

As far as free web hosting choices go, 000webhost is offering a very intuitive control panel, plenty of statistics about your website, several automated tools to help you build a website, and the only Ads you see on your dashboard and page are for Hostinger or 000webhost.

The performance is 2-3 times slower than their paid option, but it still gets the job done.

Wix

When we're talking about the best free web hosting providers Wix might be a weird choice, but technically they do offer free web hosting. It comes "pre-packaged" with their website builder tool.

Wix is a radically different choice than 000Webhost and InfinityFree because it doesn't come with a content management system like WordPress. Instead you get to use a drag and drop style website builder. Once you're done building your website, you can host it for free.

Wix is by far the easiest to use and the most stable free tool out there. However, at the same time it's the most limiting one as well. Even adding your own domain name will cost you $5 a month, you won't have email addresses and you can forget about complex functionality.

In my opinion, using options like InfinityFree or 000Webhost as your free web hosting choice is a great learning experience about web hosting & WordPress. While Wix is a great tool to build a good looking website fast. However, keep in mind that you will have an ad banner at the top of your website at all times.

Conclusion

Overall, I'm not a big fan of free web hosting services, I would strongly advise against using free web hosting for actual projects as it's simply too unreliable. However, for learning purposes or testing out designs, looks both InfinityFree and 000webhost offer an excellent platform.

At the time of writing this video, Hostinger isn't offering free 24/7 live chat support anymore. They're using an email system and if you want 24/7 live chat you have to buy that as an option in their store for a couple of dollars extra. As the Hostinger support agents explained this is mainly due to the increased load and free 24.7 chat support should be back soon.
